Tues 7 June, 16:00 – 17:30, Stakeholder Workshop SW02: “Next Generation ITS professionals

Location: ITS Forum

This session will be organised by ITS (UK) for administrative purposes but it is designed to take a fully European perspective. The session will communicate best practice in recruiting and retaining young entrants into employment in the ITS sector. Many countries are suffering from a skills shortage in the ITS area and it is essential to establish the most effective ways of attracting and retaining the brightest, most innovative young people into ITS. The session panel will comprise people with many years of deep experience of how to tackle this issue successfully. This session will NOT be a 90 minute set of individual presentations with Powerpoint slides. Panellists and moderator will introduce themselves and give brief descriptions of their experiences and advice for recruitment and retention of young people in ITS. The Moderator will then lead an hour long open discussion involving both panellists and audience, aimed at establishing what the whole room thinks is best practice in this area.

The Young Professionals in ITS and the University of Aberdeen present the first ever Future of Transport Life Raft Debate on Tuesday 7 June in Glasgow at Sloan’s Pub, Argyle Arcade, Glasgow. Arrive at 18:30 for a 19:00 start

” Which expert would you trust with the future of transport?”

There has been a war, and the survivors (the Young Professionals / audience) are setting sail to rebuild the transport system. There is a group of ITS experts vying to get on the raft, and only 1 seat is left. Transport professionals will pitch themselves to the Young Professionals to argue that his or her discipline is indispensable for future transport to flourish.  At the end of the debating, the audience votes and the lucky winner climbs aboard!

Experts: Eric Sampson CBE (Independent Transport Strategy Adviser), John Nelson (University of Aberdeen), Stephanie Leonard (EuropeanCommission), Ruth Kennedy (DfT, UK), Kevin Borras (H3B media), Jennie Martin (ITS (UK)) and many more.
